Tonight, friends, we are living the dream:
I am writing poetry on the floor, and Philip is writing music at the piano. It is a thousand degrees in our house, but it's clean, there is a semi-breeze, and we are happy (I posted a link to a blog of my poetry, if you're the poetic type and have some time).
We are meeting with our pastor on Wednesday to discuss the youth ministry plans in more detail. We've considered it prayerfully since our last post. While doing this, I flipped to Matthew (good place to start when you don't know where to start). And read several things, but this was what stuck: (Matthew 9:35-38)
Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."
This resonates with me. Jesus had compassion on them not only because they were helpless, but because help was not quickly on the way. There weren't enough workers working.
We can talk all day about youth ministry and education. We can go on and on about the needs we see in teenagers' lives. We need to get beyond that. We want our hearts to break because God's heart breaks. We want his compassion. His urgency. And all of this, for us, seems to point to the scary next step of raising support for youth ministry at the Bridge.
We'll keep you posted as we figure this all out. We also have some pictures of a possible building for a music venue/youth center we've been working on, as well as some sweet shots from our hotdog party last weekend. I'll get them up soon. Peace, friends.
